Terms of Service
Last updated: May 2026
Symmathy is a literature search, retrieval, and organization tool for scientific and medical research. It indexes public databases (PubMed, Europe PMC, and others) and helps users find, save, and synthesize published papers. It does not evaluate, grade, or recommend any article, and it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or clinical recommendations. Every result links to its original source.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Symmathy LLC ("Symmathy", "we", "us"), a limited liability company organized in Wyoming, USA, governing your access to and use of the Symmathy service (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms, the Disclaimer, and the Privacy Policy.
1. Eligibility
You must be 16 or older to use the Service. By using it you represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
2. Your account
You are responsible for the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us at connect@symmathy.org if you suspect unauthorized access.
3. Research use only
The Service is provided for research, education, and information-retrieval purposes only. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, and must not be used as the sole basis for a clinical decision concerning an identifiable patient. See the Disclaimer for the full statement.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload identifiable patient information (PHI) — including names, medical record numbers, dates of birth, addresses, contact details, biometric identifiers, or any document you have not first de-identified per HIPAA Safe Harbor or your local equivalent. Symmathy is not a HIPAA Business Associate, has no Business Associate Agreement in place, and uploading PHI is a material breach of these Terms and grounds for immediate account termination;
- use the Service to provide medical advice to third parties as if it were professional advice;
- scrape, bulk-download, or rebuild a competing database from the Service's outputs;
- circumvent rate limits, authentication, or security controls;
- upload malware, infringing content, or content that is unlawful in your jurisdiction;
- misrepresent AI-generated output as primary research;
- use the Service in violation of the terms of any underlying source database (PubMed, Europe PMC, Cochrane, ClinicalTrials.gov, J-STAGE, LILACS, DOAJ, HAL, OpenAlex, or CrossRef).
5. Intellectual property
Symmathy and its software, design, and original content are owned by Symmathy LLC and protected by copyright and other laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. You retain ownership of any content you upload; you grant us a limited license to process that content solely to provide the Service to you.
Source data retrieved from third-party databases remains the property of its respective rights holders and is governed by their terms.
6. AI-generated content
The Service uses large language models to summarize, compare, verify, and answer questions about scientific literature. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or fabricated. You are solely responsible for verifying any AI-generated claim against the cited primary source before relying on it for any purpose.
7. Fees, billing & merchant of record
Symmathy offers a free tier and paid subscription tiers (currently "AI Insights" at $10/month and "Symmathy Pro" at $25/month). Pricing is shown on the pricing page and may change with notice. Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until canceled; you may cancel at any time from your account, and access continues through the end of the paid period.
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries, handles billing, tax compliance, and processes refunds in accordance with our Refund Policy. By purchasing a subscription you also agree to Paddle's Checkout Buyer Terms.
8. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from Library → Manage data. We may suspend or terminate your access without notice if you breach these Terms, attempt to harm the Service or its users, or use the Service in a manner that creates risk or possible legal exposure for us. Sections 5, 9, 10, 11, and 12 survive termination.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SYMMATHY LLC BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, DATA, CLINICAL OUTCOMES, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED FIFTY (50) U.S. DOLLARS.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Symmathy LLC, its officers, contributors, and licensors from any claim, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your reliance on any output of the Service in a clinical or other professional context.
12. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Wyoming, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any dispute arising under these Terms shall be the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, USA, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
13. Changes
We may modify these Terms by posting a revised version. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage or via email. Your continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance.
