Plain-English summary: Symmathy is a search and organization tool for scientific literature. It is not a medical device, not a substitute for clinical judgment, and AI summaries can be wrong. Verify every claim against the cited primary source before acting on it.
1. Medical Disclaimer
Symmathy (the "Service") is an evidence-discovery and literature-summarization tool intended solely for use by qualified healthcare professionals, researchers, and informed members of the public for research and educational purposes.
The Service does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or any form of professional clinical opinion. No content displayed by the Service — including AI-generated summaries, comparisons, syntheses, knowledge graphs, or extracted claims — should be relied upon as a basis for medical decision-making.
Use of the Service does not create a doctor-patient, provider-patient, or any other professional relationship between you and Symmathy or its operators. Always consult a qualified, licensed healthcare professional for medical advice and treatment. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.
2. AI Accuracy & Limitations
Symmathy uses large language models (LLMs) to summarize, compare, and answer questions about scientific literature. LLMs are known to produce outputs that are factually incorrect, incomplete, biased, fabricated ("hallucinated"), out of date, or that misrepresent the source material — even when the source is correctly retrieved.
You acknowledge and accept that:
- AI-generated summaries may misstate study populations, dosages, endpoints, effect sizes, statistical significance, or conflicts of interest.
- Citations may be incorrectly attributed or refer to passages that do not contain the cited claim.
- Absence of evidence in a Symmathy result is not evidence of absence — relevant studies may not have been retrieved.
- You are solely responsible for verifying any claim against the cited primary source before acting on it.
3. Source Data & Attribution
Symmathy retrieves metadata and abstracts from third-party public APIs, including (but not limited to): the U.S. National Library of Medicine (PubMed/MEDLINE), Europe PMC, the Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov, J-STAGE, BVS/BIREME (LILACS), DOAJ, HAL, OpenAlex, and CrossRef. Each source is governed by its own terms of use, which apply to your use of the data retrieved through Symmathy.
Symmathy does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, currency, or availability of data retrieved from third-party sources. Source APIs may change, return errors, throttle requests, or be discontinued without notice. We are not responsible for the content of any third-party paper, trial registration, or website linked from the Service.
4. Terms of Use
4.1 Permitted use
You may use the Service for lawful research, educational, and informational purposes consistent with this document and the terms of the underlying data sources. You may not use the Service to (a) provide medical advice to third parties as if it were professional advice, (b) build a competing commercial database by bulk-scraping our outputs, (c) attempt to defeat rate limits or security controls, or (d) submit content that is unlawful, infringing, or harmful.
4.2 No warranty
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
4.3 Changes
We may modify the Service or these terms at any time. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the change.
5. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SYMMATHY, ITS OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, DATA, CLINICAL OUTCOMES, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE OR ANY CONTENT OBTAINED FROM IT — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Symmathy and its operators from any claim, liability, or expense arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these terms, or your reliance on any output of the Service in a clinical or other professional context.
6. Privacy Notice
6.1 What we collect
When you use the Service, we may process: account information you provide (e.g. email address), the search queries and uploaded documents you submit, derived AI outputs and saved library entries, and standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) for security and abuse prevention.
6.2 Third-party processors
Search queries are transmitted to the source APIs listed above to retrieve results. Queries and document text are transmitted to our AI model providers (e.g. Google, OpenAI, via the Lovable AI Gateway) for summarization. Do not submit identifiable patient information (PHI) into the Service. We do not control how upstream AI providers retain or use prompts beyond their published policies.
6.3 Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California, etc.), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data. Contact us using the address below to exercise these rights.
7. Regulatory Status
Symmathy is not a medical device under the U.S. Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act, the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745), the UK MHRA framework, or any equivalent regime. It has not been reviewed or cleared by the FDA, EMA, MHRA, or any other regulator. It is a general-purpose information-retrieval and summarization tool intended for research and education.
If your intended use is to inform diagnosis, treatment, or other clinical decisions for an identifiable patient, the Service is unsuitable for that use. Use a regulated clinical decision-support tool instead.
8. Contact
